Sonam Kapoor is an Indian film actress who mainly appears in Bollywood films. Sonam Kapoor made her
Bollywood debut with the movie Saawariya opposite actor Ranbir Kapoor in 2007. Saawariya was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. After Saawariya, Sonam Kapoor also appeared in the offbeat drama Delhi-6 (2009). Sonam tasted her first commercial success with the film I hate Luv Storys opposite Imran Khan. I Hate Luv Storys was a romantic comedy. Sonam later did Aisha also a romantic comedy opposite Abhay Deol.  Later Sonam appeared in films like Mausam, Thank you and Players.

Sonam Kapoor Biography – Early Life


Sonam Kapoor was born and brought up in Chembur, Mumbai. Sonam is the eldest daughter of Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, a Punjabi and Sunita Kapoor, a Sindhi. Sonam is also the grand daughter of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor. Sonam Kapoor is the niece of producer Boney Kapoor, actress Sridevi, actor Sanjay Kapoor and producer Sandeep Marwah. She is the eldest child in the family. Her siblings are sister Rhea Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan. Sonam Kapoor is also the cousin of upcoming actor Arjun Kapoor.



Sonam attended the Arya Vidya Mandir school in Juhu and then enrolled in the United World College of South East Asia to do her International Baccalaureate. She also studied Political Science and Economics from Bombay University. Sonam speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi and Marathi and is a trained classical dancer.

As a student Sonam was an average student. She joined Kathak classes at a very early age and learnt this dance form for 12 years. After that she went to Singapore for two years to study theatre.
Sonam Kapoor Biography – Foray into Bollywood
Before entering the acting arena, Sonam Kapoor along with Ranbir Kapoor worked as assistants to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film Black in 2005. In 2007, Sonam Kapoor made her Bollywood debut in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor.




In 2009, Sonam Kapoor appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6, opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Though the film fared badly at the Box Office her performance was well appreciated. In 2010, Sonam ventured in the romantic comedy I Hate Luv Storys and tasted her first commercial success with this movie. She starred opposite Imran Khan in this film. Sonam Kapoor then appeared in another romantic comedy Aisha opposite Abhay Deol which did average grosser at the Box Office.


Her first release for the year 2011 ThankYou was a critical failure, although the film was an average grosser at the box office. Later in the same year Sonam Kapoor starred opposite Shahid Kapoor in the movie Mausam which received mixed reviews but failed to perform well at the Box Office. But Sonam Kapoor’s brilliant performance was critically acclaimed in the movie.
Sonam’s very first release in 2012 Players, a remake of The Italian Job, alongside actor Abhishek Bachchan, fared badly at the Box Office and received negative reviews.

Sonam Kapoor is a brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant L’Oreal in India. Sonam also appeared in the 64th Cannes Film Festival in 2011.

Sonam Kapoor has various interests like reading, shopping, playing squash, video games and painting. Also due to her reading habit she developed the art of writing and happens to be a good writer. Sonam was never interested in acting. Direction and writing were where her interest in films lay. Sonam Kapoor was nicknamed Giraffe by her father Anil Kapoor. Along with various other interests Sonam Kapoor loved playing Basketball at a local club along with her childhood friend Ranbir Kapoor when they were growing up together.
